Philosophy

Although Dr. Goldman was trained in traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy, Behavior Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), hypnosis, EMDR, and Solution-Focused Therapy, he has come to approach psychotherapy from a client-based perspective.  He assists clients to identify their own goals for treatment and the relevant strengths and resources they already possess, and helps them develop strategies for building the skills needed to accomplish those goals and track their own progress.  He will provide guidance and offer treatment strategies only as a client sees fitting to their own goals and preferences.  Often, Dr. Goldman will assign homework for individuals or couples to complete between sessions.  Dr. Goldman will not set up a fixed weekly time for any client.  He will schedule at most 2-3 sessions in advance, and prefers to ask clients to evaluate the work after each session to determine whether they are comfortable with the progress and approach, and how much time they want between sessions to work on making changes and be ready to return.
